WHO Controls the Media?!?
Blogging for the ultra-nationalist Times of Israel, a new online publication based in Jerusalem, Jewish writer Elad Nehorai wrote an opinion piece boldly declaring that Jews DO indeed control the media!
Nehorai, who also writes for the Huffington Post, is a member of the supremacist religious order, the Chabad Lubbavitch which according to Wikipedia is the largest Jewish organization in the world. The Chabad Lubbavitch is notorious for the racist rantings of it’s former leader Menachem Mendel Schneerson.
Nehorai’s bio from the Chabad.org is as follows:
Elad Nehorai is an alumnus of Arizona State University and Mayanot yeshiva. You can find Elad wandering around America, gallivanting around Israel, or getting lost in the clouds. His favorite things to do include reading, writing and conversing with G-d.
Nehorai’s bio from the Huffington Post is as follows:
Elad Nehorai is a writer living in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Five years ago, he became a religious Jew in the Chabad Hassidic community and has since written about his experience extensively, most recently in his blog Pop Chassid. You can find him on Twitter as @PopChassid and Facebook.
Long-Held Beliefs Are Validated Once Again
Nehorai’s braggadocios musings on Jewish media power reference Jewish journalist Joel Stein’s article carried in the December 19, 2008 edition of the LA Times. The article entitled “How Jewish is Hollywood,” carried the tagline: “A poll finds more Americans disagree with the statement that ‘Jews control Hollywood.’ But here’s one Jew who doesn’t.”
Like Stein, it appears that Nehorai wishes to either break the taboo of Jewish influence in the media, or to simply take the opportunity to boast of this remarkable Jewish achievement amongst his fellow Jews. Take your pick. Here are some of Nehorai’s proclamations that validate long-held beliefs held among the silent majority:
[The] funny part is when any anti-Semite or anti-Israel person starts to spout stuff like, “The Jews control the media!” and “The Jews control Washington!”
Suddenly we’re up in arms. We create huge campaigns to take these people down. We do what we can to put them out of work. We publish articles. We’ve created entire organizations that exist just to tell everyone that the Jews don’t control nothin’. No, we don’t control the media, we don’t have any more sway in DC than anyone else. No, no, no, we swear: We’re just like everybody else!
Does anyone else (who’s not a bigot) see the irony of this?
Let’s be honest with ourselves, here, fellow Jews. We do control the media. We’ve got so many dudes up in the executive offices in all the big movie production companies it’s almost obscene. Just about every movie or TV show, whether it be “Tropic Thunder” or “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” is rife with actors, directors, and writers who are Jewish. Did you know that all eight major film studios are run by Jews?
Decades of training Americans to deny reality
The suggestion that “Jews control the media,” or rather Jews maintain an over-representation in the media, has long been a taboo in the United States and Western nations. So strong is this taboo that the mere suggestion of Jewish ownership of the media is usually met with strong denouncement from Jews and non-Jews alike. The ideological sledgehammer known as “antisemitism” is often hurled about in a desperate effort to silence the offender and quickly end the discussion.
As Nehorai admits, there are dozens writers, educators, and even entire organizations dedicated to convincing Americans that there is no such thing as Jewish control of the media. Consider the work of Tim Wise and Mark Crispin Miller; two writers who have written essays denying Jewish power in the media. Wise and Miller, along with the Jewish run Anti-Defamation League and their affiliates seemed to have no comments on Nehorai’s article. Upon inspection ofWise and Miller’s work, their denials seem almost comical when compared to Elad Nehorai’s bold declaration of Jewish media control.
Nehorai is right to question is why Jews and their defenders feign outrage and continue to deny their stunning acheivements in the media. The rest of us can only question silently amongst ourselves “why are we forced to accept the false reality that Jews don’t dominate American media?”
Loose lips sink ships
Although Nehorai’s article was circulated fairly widely on the usual alternative and anti-Zionist news sites such as What Really Happened, it was pretty much ignored by the larger mainstream online news outlets such as the Drudge Report and the aforementioned Huffington Post. And of course it was ignored by all of the alphabet soup media outlets. There were, however some interesting discussions that arose in light of this recent revelation.
One such discussion would be from the comment section of the Times of Israel article itself, and another discussion is from the Something Awful forum. While the the comment section of the article offers some serious and insightful debate, the Something Awful discussion is full of philo-semitic denial and sarcastic downplaying of the idea that Jews are over-represented in American media.
Strangely, about a week after Nehorai’s boastful article was posted on The Times of Israel, the page was updated, Elad’s profile photo was removed and the the article was no longer attributed to “Elad Nehorai,” but rather to a “Manny Friedman.” At the end of the article, the following Orwellian disclaimer now reads: “This article was written under an assumed name.”
Could be that some of Nehorai’s more level-headed contemporaries and media associates may have thought that he was letting the cat out of the bag and wished to distance themselves from the issue of Jewish control of the media? One can only speculate, although it would make sense that at a time of financial uncertainty, some Jews in prominent positions of power would be concerned about drawing too much attention to themselves from those who would otherwise remain ignorant.
How the media is used is the issue
The whole idea of Jewish control, over-representation or whatever you want to call it is only part of the issue. Aside from who controls the media, the real issue is what is being done with the media and why. The day to day blatant degeneracy, subversion and perception management of the media are far more explosive issues than who controls it.
Nehorai himself seems to gingerly address the issue of this degeneracy and subversion. When he writes about “dirty TV shows that sully the spiritual atmosphere of the world,” was Nehorai referring to the Curb Your Enthusiasm episode where producer, writer and actor Larry David instructs a Girl Scout on tampon insertion? Or perhaps was he referring to David’s episode where the running gag involved an eight year-old girl and her vagina?
Are we to assume that Nahorai is unaware of this degeneracy and blatant subversion of the media, or are we to assume that despite his religious beliefs, that he simply approves of it?
This article may warrant a follow up, in either written or video form (or both), particularly on the issue media subversion and how this subversion affects us all.
